Waiting-list for new dreadlocks and extensions

    1.How can I get on the waiting-list?

We are taking new names on the waiting list via e-mail only. Send to info@organicdreadlocks.com.au

    2. How long is the wait?

We work down the list name by name; a 6-12 month wait can be expected. We cant know when it will be your turn or promise you any dates.

    3. How does the waiting-list work?

Currently, we are taking two months of bookings at a time. Once we are down to your name on the list we will send you an e-mail to let you know the dates that are available within the window of one month. If you cant get here in this window you need to re-enter the waiting-list from the bottom.

We are very grateful that our services are very much in demand but we are only a small family run bussiness and can only make the dreads we can! We understand that many people need to fly in from far away or overseas for their dreads and need to secure a booking sometimes many months in advance. We also know that many people have been trying to book in for over 18 months. We will try our best to find you a space but it can only be within the following two month period. We are only booking two months of work at a time so we can stay flexible as a family and make time for fun and travel without having years worth of bookings already lined up. Aside from making new dreads we also need to accomodate for a snowballing number of people needing maintenance. It is important to us that we not only make your dreads (and make them beautifully!) but will have the time to maintain them should you need it. Some weeks this limits us to only one new head of dreads a week which can make it difficult to get a booking. As artists we have had to learn (the hard way) about stretching ourselves and overbooking. We simply cant keep up with the demand for our dreadlocks unless it comes at the cost of the quality and integrity of our work (which is absolutely not what we want). We're sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to meeting you!

4.What if I just want a big maintenance or fix up, or if I have short hair or want extensions?

We can often find space for these kind of jobs within a week or two when a few hours are available between other small bookings. In which case however, it may take a couple of sessions to complete.

    5. Is there a discount for a person on a consession card, a student, a mumi of young children or a pensionere?

Yes; we discount $10 per hour for anyone on a consession card, students, young mummy's and or pensioner. Please let us know and discuss before your booking. If you have already paid full price there is no refund for concession.

    Cost

    1. How much does a full head of dreads cost?

For all new dreadlocks including extensions there is a $150 base charge, then you pay the hourly rate. The hourly rate is $70 per hour on weekdays and $90 on weekends/public holidays. Shoulder lenght hair usually takes 3-5hrs, below the shoulders 4-6hrs and long hair 6hrs plus. Time varies according to hair-type and thickness, the structure and width of dreadlocks you choose.

For all new jobs we include your first maintenance session free (within your fist six weeks of dreadlock life) as well as a free bottle of shampoo. Cost also includes a maintenace lesson and advice on your scalp and troubles you may encounter.

    2. How much do you charge for extensions?

For extensions there are three elements to the final cost. This includes:

    - A $150 base charge

    - The hourly rate as listed above for installation

    - The cost of the human hair needed depending on the length, width, number of dreads ect.

Cost depends on many factors including length, your hairs natural amount, body and quality and the style you want to achieve. There are two lengths that we usually work with...

-16 inches of lenght which costs $300 and ussually takes 10 hours to install. Time varies according to hair-type, style, the use of multiple colours, length and number of dreadlocks.

-20 inches of lenght which costs $450 and usually take up to 12.5 hours to install. Time varies according to hair-type, style, the use of multiple colours, length and number of dreadlocks.

    - 24 inches of length which costs $600 and usually takes up 15 hours, again depending on your chosen style.

Example of cost break down for extensions...

    base rate $150

    +

    human hair $450

    +

    installation 12.5hrs x $70 per hour weekdays

= $1475 (including shampoo and first touch up within a period of your first six weeks, a lesson in maintaining and caring for your own dreadlocks).

The length of extensions is completely flexible...we can do shorter or longer depending on what you would like. The length is limitless!

    3. How much does it cost to have my dreads fixed up?

It depends on the condition of your dreads. If your coming for the first session a few months after you have them made it takes around 2hrs. If you have well established dreads and need regrowth tidied and tightened we take between 1 and 2hrs. Depending on how many dreads you have and the method of maintenance you want. For big jobs including restructuring the dreadlocks at the scalp section, frizz and regrowth it can take around 3hrs or more.

    4. Payment options?

we have eftpos and you are able to pay with credit cards etc....

    5. Is there a discount for a person on a consession card, a student, a mumi of young children or a pesnionere?

Yes; we discount $10 per hour for anyone on a consession card, students, a mumi of young children and or pensionere. Need to be claimed prior payments is made; we wont refund consesion price if you payed for the full cost.

    Extensions

    1. How long does my hair need to be to get dreadlocks extensions?

You can get extensions with only 5cm of lenght, if you have a sensitive scalp it would be better to have 10cm, as 5cm can be painful (we need to use the crochet hook very close to the scalp).

    2. Can I colour extensions?

Only the human hair extensions can be coloured. Synthetic hair is plastic and doesn't take any dyes.

    3. I colour my hair regulary... is it still possible with extensions?

Yes, however the dye can build up inside the dreadlocks, so ensure it is as natural as possible. Bleachining the dreadlocks can lead to chemical build-up and if it's too strong it can cause damage and/or breakage. So it's best to be very careful with bleaching. We have experienced customers receiving very expensive human hair extensions from us only to have them bleached by a hair dresser to the point where they have broken off at the scalp. So be very careful when choosing a hairdresser to do your dying!!!!

    4. Can you extend my existing dreads?

Yes; we can do this and have had very striking results.

    5. How presentable are new dreadlocks extensions?

They will be a bit stiff and uniform in the beginning and the structure at the scalp will show. However; they will soften and settle in the first week. Because the extended hair is already dead and usually a little dry it binds very quickly into a tight dreadlock and takes much less maintenace the natural dread. Occasionally, our custombers with short hair have returned with some dreads mainly at the back or temples coming loose, but this is easy to fix.

    6. How strong will the extensions be attached?

The strength varies according to the width of each dread, length and strength of your hair.

-With a skinny dread you have less strains of hair holding the extensions. Dreads under 1cm in width are not as strongly attatched. 1cm in thinckness and over will usually make a very strong hold.

-With short hair we have less overlapping => with 10cm or less you likely need a touch up soonish. 10cm or longer makes a strong hold.

-With fine hair you will have less strain strenght => with a very skinny dread and fine hair; the dreads are much more fragile

The weakest point in your dreadlock is where the extensions is attached to your hair. With wear and tear the join can may become loose at any stage in the dreads life. Everything can be fixed but just take this into account when choosing the size of your dread.

    7. What if i have troubels with a new set of extensions?

As mentioned above the strenght of the dread-extension highly varies according of your hair. If you have any troubles with your new extension we can offer you a free touch up within the first 2-3 weeks. Send a mail as soon as possible to; info@organicdreadlock.com.au and we will give you a spot to book in the next few days if possible. If you cant come back? we always try to teach you how to maintain and croche them yourself. We can send you extra hair should you need it. If you cant do it yourself you might have to see a local artist. We always try our best help; feel free to send an e-mail or give us a call....

    9. How longlasting are the extensions?

This highly varies according how much wear and tear they get. You always wear them; so they get lots of wear and tear. Its like wearing the same clothing every day. After a few years you get holes and the fabric is less strong etc... With agan or coconut oil you can moisturise the dread and extend the lifespane.

With extensions; dont use any prducts like dread loc-up soap or powders that dry out the hair etc. This products will dry out and weaken the hair => shortens lifespan of extensions.

    Maintenance

    1. Can I do my own maintenance?

Yes! It's possible to maintain your dreadlocks completely by yourself. We will show you how you can do your own maintenance. However, it takes a little practice and sometimes it's easier just to have us do it for you!

    2. Should I wash my hair before maintenace?

It's much better to have a clean, dry scalp before your maintainence, so oils and dandruff dont get fixed inside the regrowth as we tighten it.

    3. What if i have head lice? Can i still come for my maintenace?

We would prefer if you are clear of any sign of head lice before coming in to avoid spreading them. It's also much easier to treat if your dreads are loose at the scalp.

    4. I want to have my dreads tightend and neatened up, but don't want all my regrowth in becasue it looks too unnatural, is that possible?

Everthing is possible...we can tailor your maintenace exactly how you want it.

    5. How often will I need my new dreads maintenained?

If you have them made by us then hopefully not much at all! Some of our customers we see once a year after their new dreads have been made, some after one month, while others never have maintenace done at all. It depends on how neat you want them, and how close you like them to be on the scalp and how much you work on them yourself.

If you have very fine, straight or healthy hair then you can get a few flyaways which don't take too long to fix up. Occasionally, our custombers with very short hair have returned with some dreads at the back of their neck coming loose, but again; this is easy to fix.

    Other Questions

    1. I cut my dreads off but now I want them back, can you do it?

If you still have your old dreads we will happily attatch them back on for you.

    2. Will I lose three quarters of the length of my hair if I get dreads?

If you have them made badly by back-brushing and rolling then yes, you will lose a lot of length. However, with our dreads (especially open ended dreads) you are only likely to lose a couple of inches.

    3. If I get head lice do I have to cut my dreadlocks off to get them out?

No not at all, just use our no-more-knit solution. See Dreadlock products.

    4. Can I still wash my hair?

Yes but only with a natural, oil based shampoo. Chemical shampoos leave a residue that can irritate the scalp and make you itchy and flakey. See dreadlock products for our specially formulated shampoo that also controls dandruff and repels head lice.

    5. Do I have to cut them off if I don’t want them any more?

Not necessarily. In our experience dreads can actually be quite easily unpicked within at least the upper half of the dread.

    6. How long does my hair need to be to get dreadlocks?

We can dread almost any lenght longer than 5cm. Obviously short hair makes short dreads.

    7. Can i still dye my hair with dreads?

    Yes

    8. Do I need any products for my dreadlocks?

We recommend to wash with a natural oil based shampoo. We make our own and you can purchase it from the shop online or at our studio. Otherwise, you shouldn't need anything else!

    9. Should I wax my new dreadlocks?

We never recommend wax, because it builds up, is sticky, smelly, attracts dust and dirt, looks grimy and stops the dreads from drying and grows mould and mildew.

    10. Where is the Organic Dreadlcoks technique from? Do you offer Dread courses/training/teaching???

We developed our own technique. We do not teach or sell our technique. If you get your dreads made or maintained we will show you how the maintaining and crocheting works..... often our clients are able to do their own maintaining and sometimes even start there own dread-buinesses.

However be aware of people that claim to be trained by Organic Dreadlocks. This is not true. however; they might have had their dreads done here and we showed them the basics.
